Now this is a car!1974 Alfa Romeo 1600 Junior Z (1570cc), first registered in April 1974. The Alfa Romeo Junior Z was a limited production two-seater coupé that evolved from the Giulia Spider (Tipo 105) and was first shown in 1969. The superbly aerodynamic design was the work of Ercole Spada at Zagato (hence Junior Z) of Milan, who had a long history of working with Alfa Romeo. In 1972 the car was revamped: now longer (Tipo 115) with a bigger 1570cc engine capacity. In total 402 Alfa Romeo 1600 Junior Z's were completed between 1972 and 1973 (although they were still shipping as late as 1975). It is a fantastic looking car, ahead of its time no doubt, and capable of a respectable top speed of 118 mph. Very very cool!
1974 Austin Allegro. The original design for this car was by Harris Mann, but it was for a far sleeker, more aerodynamic vehicle. The final production model was a lot more rounded, and some might even say ugly. But its somewhat rounded body styling (and choice of finishes) screams 1970s. The Austin Allegro certainly had plenty of character! This four-door saloon is fitted with a 1.3 L A-Series I4 (1275 cc) engine and was registered in May 1974. Looks fab in orange! (Is it BL's Bronze Yellow?)
The Ford Escort mark 1 RS2000 was available between 1972 and 74. 2-door saloon fully race ready (#32), but taking a break at Silverstone race course. These mk1 Ford Escorts always look great in a two-tone paintjob, and this is no exception. Wonderful!
Now this is a stunner! Gorgeous Ford Escort mk1 RS2000 in orange/yellow two-tone rally finish. Certainly looks the part! This example was registered in March 1974, so one of the last Escort mark1s before the mark2 arrived later that year. 1993cc
The 1974 Porsche Carrera RS 3.0 was both lighter and more powerful than the previous year's 2.7L Carrera, for improved motorsport performance. It also had wider body panels and a "whale tail" spoiler replacing the "ducktail" of the 1973 911 Carrera RS. This example was registered in March 1974, with a recorded engine capacity of 3162cc.
Built in 1973/74 and registered in the UK in August 1974, this tasty Porsche 911S is one of the first Porsche "G-series" 911Ss, with a more powerful 2687cc capacity engine, low impact bumpers and K-Jetronic CIS Bosch fuel injection. Fantastic car!
The Triumph TR6 was produced between September 1968 and July 1976. Unlike so many 1960s Triumph sports cars, the TR6 was not styled by Giovanni Michelotti, but Karmann of Osnabrück, Germany. This tasty example was registered in March 1974. 2498cc
1974 Vanden Plas 1500 (1485cc). The Vanden Plas was launched in September 1974, as an upmarket version of the Austin Allegro. This one was registered in November 1974, so one of the first. The Vanden Plas had a number of cosmetic enhancements - including a statelier front grille and leather seats, but there is no mistaking the distinctive body style!
