The Daimler 250 2.5 V8 Saloon was produced between 1962 and 1967. The engine was a Daimler 2.5-litre V8 (2548cc), whilst the body was based on the Jaguar mk2 (Jaguar 240 and Jaguar 340), though internally more luxurious, with a number of external Daimler features: Daimler front grille, wheels, rear number plate surround etc. Daimler was, of course, owned by Jaguar at this time, with the Daimler marque reserved for their most luxurious saloons. It's a great looking and beautifully built car! This one was registered in March 1967.
1960s and 1970s Daimler cars were, to a greater or lesser extent, rebadged Jaguars, typically more highly appointed for a superior level of luxury. Initially these were equipped with a Daimler engine (for example the Daimler 250), but the Sovereign was all-Jaguar. The series 2 Daimler Sovereign, produced from 1973-79 was effectively an extra-flash Jaguar XJ6. But the car pictured here is a variant of the typical 4-door series 2 Sovereign saloon - a 2-door coupé with a 4.2L (4235cc) engine - only available 1975-78. This one was registered in September 1977. Fantastic looking car!
The 1968-69 Daimler V8-250 was the result of the 1967 minor revamp of the earlier 60s Daimler 2.5 V8, These changes were mostly cosmetic, with the V8-250 keeping the same Daimler 2.5-litre V8 (2548cc) engine, although there were a number of electrical upgrades. Daimler was a super-luxury brand, and after it was bought from BSA by Jaguar in 1960, the marque was applied to Jaguars most luxurious offerings. The Daimler 250 was effectively a supremely appointed Jaguar mk2 with the Daimer 2.5 V8 engine. This stunning example was registered in October 1969.
